Hello,
Rolling Stone has released another Top 200 Best 80s songs list, however for some reason there are only 199 songs? I’m going to post the songs from 199 to 181 and review. I’m not a big fan of Rolling Stone’s rankings as they include songs that I’ve never heard of or songs that were only popular to a very select group of people. My Top 200 80s songs would look completely different.
With MTV at its peak and radio stations playing multiple genres back in the day a song that’s obscure would be hard to find. At least that’s what I thought before working on these blogs. I hadn’t heard of the song or artist for songs 180, 176, 171 and 166. I have heard, barely, of the band but not of the song for songs 177, 172 and 169. That’s several songs and bands that I’d never heard of before today. Finally songs 179, 178, 174, 165 and 164 are true 80’s classics.
That’s the alleged 180th best song of the the 80s? No I don’t think so, I don’t even think it would make the top 20,000 songs of the 80s. I kept on waiting and waiting for this song to get good, sadly it never reached that point. 181) Spacemen 3 “That’s Just Fine”:
Now this is a classic 80’s song, it should be closer to #1 than it is. 180) Peter Schilling “Major Tom (Coming Home)”:
Quite simply one of the greatest songs of all-time. 179) Rush “The Spirit of Radio”:
A perfectly fine song, but not a top 2000 song of the 80s. 178) Steel Pulse “Chant A Psalm”:
I like this song, but it never made an impact that afforded me the chance to hear it before today. A good but very obscure song. 177) Strafe “Set It Off”:
A good song, but this wouldn’t make the Police’s Top 15 Best 80s songs. 176) The Police “When The World Is Running Down”:
175) Oran “Juice” Jones “The Rain”:
174) Bananarama “Shy Boy”:
Unneeded noise, this would be more suited for the Top 2000 worst songs of the 80s. 173) Minor Threat “Straight Edge”:
A perfectly meh song. 172) The Raincoats “No One’s Little Girl”:
A mid-tempo, mid quality early 80s song. I’m surprised this song made it to #12. 171) Ray Parker Jr. “I Still Can’t Get Over Loving You”:
170) Girlschool “Yeah Right”:
Oh I have heard this song! And I also like it. 169) Ministry “Revenge”:
The sixth best 80s Rolling Stones song of the 80s. I have a feeling that most of those songs are on these rankings. 168) The Rolling Stones “Undercover Of The Night”:
167) The Jim Carroll Band “People Who Died”:
166) Samantha Fox “I Wanna Have Some Fun”:
The reason Vanilla Ice has a career, such as it is. A great 80s classic. 165) Queen and David Bowie “Under Pressure”:
