(Finished December 6th, 2023) Part 2 of The Best Songs of John Hughes Movies + Other 80s Soundtrack Hits

Hello,

What do you think of when you hear “Breakfast Club”, “Pretty In Pink”, “Some Kind of Wonderful”, “Sixteen Candles”, “Weird Science”, “Mr. Mom”, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, “Home Alone” and “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”. If you’re a movie buff or of a certain age-ahem- you most likely think of John Hughes. When I think of John Hughes movies I think of all the great music associated with them.

I’m going to break this into two parts. The first part is the 15 best songs from John Hughes movies not including “Pretty In Pink”. Then to fill out both blogs I’m going to include the best of the rest songs from 80s movies. In this first part the first fifteen songs are from John Hughes movies, the other eight songs are from other 80s movies. Most of these movies are great, but that doesn’t mean all of them are.

24) Starship “Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now”:

This is an example of making an older song your own and improving on the original quite a bit. 25) The Bangles “Hazy Shade of Winter”:

26) Modern English “I Melt With You”:

27) John Parr “St. Elmo’s Fire (A Man In Motion)”:

Just a magical moment in music. 28) David Foster “Love Theme From St. Elmo’s Fire”:

Songs 29 to 36 are great songs from other 80s movies not John Hughes movies. 29) Madonna “Live To Tell”:

30) Michael McDonald “Sweet Freedom”:

31) Night Ranger “The Secret of My Success”:

32) El Debarge “Who’s Johnny”:

33) Alphaville “Forever Young”:

34) James Brown “Living In America”:

35) Red Rider “Lunatic Fringe”:

36) Dio “Hungry For Heaven”:

All of these songs are from the second best 80s soundtrack. Another instance of a song being improved substantially, this time Psychedelic Furs improved their own song. Yes, I’ve included every song from that soundtrack. “Pretty In Pink”:

37) OMD “If You Leave”:

38) Suzanne Vega featuring Joe Jackson “Left of Center”:

39) Jesse Johnson “Get To Know Ya”:

40) INXS “Do Wot You Do”:

41) New Order “Shellshock”:

42) Belouis Some “Round Round”:

43) The Danny Hutton Hitters “Wouldn’t It Be Good”:

44) Echo and the Bunnymen “Bring On The Dancing Horses”:

Songs like these have been sung millions of times when a man wants their own Molly Ringwald. 45) The Smiths “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want”:
