(Finished January 31st, 2024) Part 7 of The Continued Greatest Rock, Pop and Soul Songs of 1982

Hello,

In 1982 Disco music had almost all but died out. It was being replaced by New Wave music, you can feel that influence on this list. You can also feel the influence of MTV, yes MTV used to have music and influence. New Wave music took full advantage of the visual medium and that’s partly why it exploded in the early 80s. Hip Hop was also making it’s first strides with the rap on Blondie’s “Rapture” and only a year away from Grandmaster Flash’s “White Lines (Don’t Do It)”.

Originally this was going to be the 102 greatest songs of 1982, however I have decided I’m going to include as many of the greatest songs of that year.

From the exquisite movie “E.T.”. I think I need to watch that movie again. I think I only watched it when it originally came out. 103) Neil Diamond “Heartlight”:
