(Finished March 13th, 2024) Part 9 of The Continued Greatest Rock, Pop and Soul Songs of 1982

Hello,

In 1982 Disco music had almost all but died out. It was being replaced by New Wave music, you can feel that influence on this list. You can also feel the influence of MTV, yes MTV used to have music and influence. New Wave music took full advantage of the visual medium and that’s partly why it exploded in the early 80s. Hip Hop was also making it’s first strides with the rap on Blondie’s “Rapture” and only a year away from Grandmaster Flash’s “White Lines (Don’t Do It)”.

Originally this was going to be the 102 greatest songs of 1982, however I have decided I’m going to include as many of the greatest songs of that year.

137) Huey Lewis and the News “Do You Believe In Love”:

138) Paul Davis “Cool Night”:

139) .38 Special “Caught Up In You”:

140) Diana Ross “Why Do Fools Fall In Love”:

141) Crosby, Stills and Nash “Wasted On The Way”:

142) Dan Fogelberg “Make Love Stay”:

143) Quincy Jones featuring James Ingram “One Hundred Ways”:

144) Kenny Loggins featuring Steve Perry “Don’t Fight It”:

145) Hall and Oates “One On One”:

146) The Go-Go’s “Our Lips Are Sealed”:

147) America “You Can Do Magic”:

There are not enough words to describe how much I love this song. 148) Jackson Browne “Somebody’s Baby”:

149) Huey Lewis and the News “Working For A Living”:

150) Joan Jett and the Blackhearts “Crimson and Clover”:

151) BIlly Squier “She’s A Runner”:

Here’s “She’s A Runner” without that annoying lady jabbering non-stop in the background.
