Hello,
All the songs I’ll be talking about here are already pretty great. But some songs completely come alive when played live. These are the best, and most alive, of those songs.
Sadly I don’t think there will be a lot, if any, of musicians like Whitney Houston, Boston, Dio, Tom Petty and others. I also know this is sacrilegious, but I don’t think Prince was great live either. Their songs didn’t take life when being played live, they were either the same or worse. There’s a reason I very rarely post live Whitney Houston videos, for the most part they’re terrible.
1) ZZ Ward “Put The Gun Down”:
The sloppier the better. 2) Guns N’ Roses “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”:
I wasn’t even aware of this song until I heard it on “World Wide Live”. This is one of the songs that inspired this series of blogs. 3) The Scorpions “The Zoo”:
I didn’t even like this song until I heard this amazing version. 4) Eric Clapton “Layla”:
5) Cranberries “Zombie”:
6) Of Monsters and Men “Little Talks”:
7) Rage Against The Machine “Killing In The Name”:
8) Arcade Fire “Rebellion (Lies)”:
Their live version of this song is better than Echo and The Bunnymen’s version. 9) Chvrches “The Killing Moon”:
10) AC/DC “Thunderstruck”:
11) Olivia Rodrigo “Driver’s License”:
Sadly this was when Geddy was losing his singing voice. 12) Rush “Limelight”:
13) R.E.M. “Orange Crush”:
14) The Commodores “Easy”:
15) Led Zeppelin “Kashmir”:
16) Sinead O’Connor “Nothing Compares 2U”:
17) Chris Stapleton “Tennessee Whiskey”:
