(Finished December 18th, 2024) The Death of Traditional Radio

For some reason I decided to listen to traditional radio today and boy was that a mistake. This is the basic schedule of traditional radio in 2024. First there’s DJ talk, commercials- including more commercials by the DJs after they get from a block of regular commercials. Then there’s contests- which are mainly contests that you have near zero percent chance of winning. Then another block of commercials, contests and radio station promos. After all that they may play a song- maybe. I usually have songs on my blogs. However in honor of listening to traditional radio today there will be no songs.

I was listening to BOB FM driving to work today and I caught them pretty much playing straight music- although they threw in their zany promos. I did love that they played Def Leppard’s “Love Bites” this morning! It’s still a great song after all of these years.

I know they have new school radio- satellite radio. But that costs money each month. I’m not interested in that at all.

I’m old school, which is why I probably was listening to radio at all. But after my experience today I’m going to continue to listen to another old school medium- CDs. No commercials, contests, radio ids and promos, dj talk. They’re just music and most of the time some of the greatest music of all-time. I mean this isn’t even a close decision for me. Team CDs!!
