(Finished May 31st, 2025) Part 1 of The Best Songs From 36 Years Ago

Hello,

I took Billboard’s Hot 100 from 36 years ago and selected the songs I like best. Those songs are the songs on this blog, the numbers indicated where that song was ranked that week. Thanks to Billboard to having these rankings available and for not suing me for using them.

“Wot’s It To You” and “C’est La Vie” are both great songs. This song is okay but I’m not surprised it didn’t make the Top 40. It peaked at #63. 98) Robbie Nevil “Somebody Like You”:

97) Karyn White “Superwoman”:

Although this song is one of the finest songs from Metallica’s catalog, it isn’t the type of song that usually did well on Billboard’s Hot 100. It peaked at #35, I’m surprised it even made the Top 100. It’s one of the most thought provoking videos of the 80s. Almost 8 minutes of bone crushing rock and roll!! Enjoy. 95) Metallica “One”:

92) Peter Schilling “The Different Story (The World of Lust and Crime)”:

88) R.E.M. “Stand”:

Debut 84) The Cult “Fire Woman”:

Debut 83) Karyn White “Secret Rendezvous”:

82) The Bulletboys “For The Love of Money”:

Debut This is the second highest debut on this week’s chart. The highest debut is Paul McCartney’s “My Brave Face”. That’s a song I have no awareness of and is probably that high because of Mccartney’s Beatles influence. 80) Roxette “Dressed For Success”:

This song peaked at #12 whereas Peter Gabriel’s iconic “In Your Eyes” only peaked at #26? 79) Def Leppard “Rocket”:

One of the least appreciated bands of the 80s. 76) XTC “The Mayor of Simpleton”:

68) Love and Rockets “So Alive”:

67) The Replacements “I’ll Be You”:

This song also peaked at #26. I’m surprised this song did that well. Winger’s debut CD was a very good CD for this hair metal loving fool. Not only that but the last time I heard Winger is still very much a working band, even recently releasing a new CD. 66) Winger “17”:

64) New Order “Round and Round”:

63) Great White “Once Bitten, Once Shy”:

One of the best ballads of the 80s and deservedly peaked at # 1. Every time I hear this song I’m reminded of just how great of a song it is. 61) The Bangles “Eternal Flame”:
