Hello,
This is my reworked rankings of the Top 50 New Wave Songs Of All-Time. It was created by Charlie’s 80s Attic Radio Station. I’ll refer to it as the original list on my blog below. I’m keeping most of the songs where they are from the original list, however there are a few songs that I have replaced. For instance I’ve never heard of The The’s “Uncertain Smile” so I will be replacing that song. I’ll also make some not so mild adjustments in the rankings.
At least that was my original goal but this took on a life of it’s own once i got started. Also i acknowledge if I made this list 50 times I would have 50 different lists.
Song #3 Visage’s “Fade To Grey”, Song #12 The The “Uncertain Smile”, Song #13 Freur’s “Doot Doot”, Song #14 B-Movie’s “Nowhere Girl”, Song #18 The Cure “Let’s Go To Bed”, Song 19, OMD’s “Enola Gay, Song #22 Adam and the Ants “Antmusic”, Song #23 Blancmange “Living On The Ceiling”, Song #26) David Bowie “Ashes To Ashes”, Song #23) Blancmange “Living On The Ceiling” and other songs aren’t on my list.
New addition/ debut is a song not on Charlie’s 80s Attic Radio Station’s original list.
That shows you how strong this list is this song is at #34. This song isn’t even on Charlie’s 80s Attic Radio Station. 34) Dexy’s Midnight Runners “”Come On Eileen”:
33) The Smiths “Bigmouth Strikes Again”:
Down from #27 on Charlie’s New Wave list. 32) Reflex “The Politics of Dancing”:
Debut. 31) Joe Jackson “Is She Really Going Out With Him”:
Debut. 30) Spandau Ballet “True”:
Debut. 29) Squeeze “Pulling Mussels From The Shell”:
Debut. 28) Paul Hardcastle “19”:
The only Depeche Mode song Charlie’s has is “Everything Counts” at #42. Any Top 50 New Wave list should have at least 2 Depeche Mode songs. My list has two Depeche Mode songs, but I could make a very strong argument for “People Are People”. 27) Depeche Mode “But Not Tonight”:
Debut. 26) Howard Jones “No One Is To Blame”:
Debut. 25) Big Country “In A Big Country”:
Debut. 24) Peter Schilling “Major Tom (Coming Home)”:
Debut. 23) The Buggles “Video Killed The Radio Star”:
Get ready for goosebumps, I get them every time I hear this song. Debut. 22) Stan Ridgway “Camouflage”:
This is song #41 on Charlie’s list. 21) The Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”:
Debut. 20) Midnight Oil “Beds Are Burning”:
Debut. 19) Echo and the Bunnymen “Bring On The Dancing Horses”:
Debut. 18) Simple Minds “Alive and Kicking”:
