(Finished January 4th, 2026) Part 1 of The Superb 6’s Over The Years

Hello,

In an attempt to start blogging about songs that are of a much recent vintage I’m going to include songs from this year- yes, 2026- in this blog series. I realized how much I write about older music when I started working on the 2000 best songs of 2000-2009. I realized that some of those songs are 26 years old! I want to include all great music- no matter the year.

With this blog series I’m going to publish the best songs from years ending in 6 from 1936 to 2026. As always I hope you enjoy, maybe even find some songs you haven’t ever heard.

1) Johnny Mercer and the Pied Pipers “Personality” (1946):

2) Elvis Presley “Heartbreak Hotel” (1956):

3) The Mamas and the Papas “California Dreamin’” (1966):

This song asks the question that no one asked. What would happen if you discofy a song of the classical genre. And yes I just made up a word. Discofy means to turn something into the heyday of the late 70s Disco era. 4) Walter Murphy “A Fifth of Beethoven” (1976):

5) Gloria Loring and Carl Anderson “Friends and Lovers” (1986):

6) Everything But The Girl “Missing” (1996):

7) Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean “Hips Don’t Lie” (2006):

Here’s a song from this year!! Agnes’ sixth CD “Beautiful Madness” will be released on January 23rd. Four of the songs are available to be heard on whatever music service you use. This is my favorite song from the songs released January 2nd. 8) Agnes “Wake Up” (2026):

One of the best songs ever. 9) Lovin Spoonful “Summer In The City”:

10) Fred Astaire “Puttin’ On The Ritz” (1946):

Bonus: Each version of this song has it’s charms. This is Taco’s 1982 cover of “Puttin’ On The Ritz”:

11) Bobby Darin “If I Were A Carpenter” (1966)”:

12) Tina Turner “Typical Male” (1986):

13) AC/DC “TNT” (1976):

14) Billy Joel “Say Goodbye To Hollywood” (1976):

15) Simon and Garfunkel “I Am A Rock” (1966):

16) Cliff Richard “Devil Woman” (1976):

17) Glen Campbell “Country Boy (You Got Your Feet In L.A.)” (1976):
