(Finished January 16th, 2026) Part 3 of the Top 100 Songs of September 15, 1990

Hello,

Thanks to Billboard for this countdown.

Wow, this Hot 100 countdown is crazy. As this is late 1990, it’s not surprising that a lot of the 80s spills over into the 90s. But seriously how many boy bands did the early 90s really need. A lot of dance music from the 80s also showed up in the 90s. Also so called hair metal was still relatively prevalent on this chart. Little did the hair metal bands know that bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam are just around the corner.

So so many of these bands and songs I’ve never even heard of and I was listening to a lot of radio right around this time. A lot of these songs had limited impact and passed by as quickly as a summer day. The shelf life was only a few weeks for many of these songs. I think maybe 50 songs were memorable a few years later. And this may be because I’m old but only 35 or 36 of these songs would be remembered by anyone now. For people that weren’t born at the time only a few songs would be known by young people now. I think those songs would be Roxette’s “It Must Have Been Love”, Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby”, Madonna’s “Vogue”, Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love” and likely that would be all. Roxette’s song is in “Pretty Woman” a movie that seems to have some longevity. Then “Vogue” and “Vision of Love” are two great songs sung by two of the most famous singers ever. My thought that “Ice Ice Baby” is still popular is because I hear it referred to still so many times and because of the novelty factor.
