(Finished Febuary 26th, 2026) Part 1 of The Best Gen X Anthems Alphabetically

Hello,

First of all a tip of the hat to the 16 remaining survivors of the Pearl Harbor attack 83 years ago.

This blog was inspired by The Atari’s “Summer ’79”, a song I was sure was by Yellowcard. However after enough research I realized I was wrong. First of all this is a great song, it really captures that feeling of being young. A time many of us want to go back to but know that we can’t. These are the lines that really caught my attention:

We Are The Champions
Playing loud on the radio station
Everyone sing along
With these anthems of our generation

What is an anthem?

An anthem is a musical composition that embodies a sense of devotion, loyalty, or celebrationIt is often associated with a distinct group, such as a country, and is typically used as a symbolNational anthems, for example, reflect a country’s history, culture, or values.

These are some of the greatest anthems of my generation. To clarify for a song to be an anthem of my generation it just has to mean something to my generation. In my opinion anthems are songs about devotion, loyalty and celebration. But they are also about so many other things. Anthems are a song that has a message, that defines a generation and/or that captures a moment about a generation.
